This is necessary in order for authorities to be able to monitor if a vessel’s crew has performed any illegal oil discharge at sea. All officers and crew onboard need to recognize that recording of ORB is required by the rules and the records are critical.

Guidance on ballast water record-keeping and reporting

The Marine Environment Protection Committee, at its eightieth session (3 to 7 July 2023) approved the Guidance on ballast water record-keeping and reporting to assist in bringing clarity to the record-keeping and reporting process under the BWM Convention, including guidance on completing the Ballast Water Record Book. This BWRB format will enter into force on 1 February 2025.

Despite an overall decline in piracy incidents against commercial ships worldwide, the Singapore Strait remains one of the regions of concern, with an 11% increase in 2022. As a result of analyzing these incidents, ReCAAP (The Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships ) attempts to improve the safety conditions and area.

MOL receives new dual-fuel methanol vessel in South Korea

Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has taken delivery of a new dual-fuel methanol carrier at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea. Named Cypress Sun, the vessel has been designed to operate using both methanol and traditional heavy fuel.
